Check out a recording of a Webinar on communications basics for public health practitioners, delivered by Bob Crittenden and Francesca Holme in July of 2011 as part of the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice's (NWCPHP's) Hot Topics in Preparedness series.
Here's a description of the Webinar, entitled Moving the Public and Policy-Makers: Talking About Community Prevention and the Affordable Care Act:
The Affordable Care Act includes the largest new investment in community-based prevention in years. But that investment has been under constant attack since the law passed. We'll talk about how to use the most effective, tested messaging to show the public and policymakers the importance of your work in community prevention, to make it easier for all of us to advocate for new and sustained funding in the long run. This language can actually shift public opinion about prevention away from a focus on individual responsibility toward an understanding that the community has a role in promoting health. Our goal is to help everyone with a stake in promoting community health to speak in a unified voice, so that together we can move decision makers and the public toward greater, more sustained support, and ensure that the Affordable Care Act's investment in prevention is realized.
